Dietrich Bonhoeffer

The commercial school in Detmold was named after Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich Bonhoeffer lived from 1906 to 1945 and was a German Lutheran theologian. He led the Church' s resistance to Nazism and headed a secret theological school from 1935 to 1940. The Nazis arrested Bonhoeffer in 1943. On 9 April 1945, only 29 days before the end of the Third Reich, he was hanged in the concentration camp Flossenburg.

25 years after Bonhoeffer' s execution Detmold had a street named after him. Some 17 years later the commercial school in Detmold decided to take on his name and remembered the martyr in a commemoration ceremony.
